On September 24, The Supreme Court of South Korea has made a final decision on Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon’s appeals.
In November 2019, Seoul Central District Court sentenced Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon of each six years and five years in prison for charges including aggravated rape and Dissemination and intimidation of illegal shooting. Both Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon appealed the ruling for a new round of hearings this year. In May 2020, the Seoul High Court reduced Jung Joon Young’s prison sentence to five years and Choi Jong Hoon’s to two years and six months. Both defendants went on to appeal the new ruling agian and brought the case to the Supreme Court.
On September 12, the Supreme Court chose to dismiss both appeals and uphold the original prison sentences. The reasons to uphold the original prison sentences are due to these reasons. “There was no violation of legal principles or misrepresentation of facts due to subjective reasoning or experience in the original ruling, and there was also no misconception of jurisprudence.” Due to Seoul High Court’s final ruling, Jung Joon Young’s prison sentence is five years and Choi Jong Hoon’s is two years and six months.
Meanwhile, Jung Joon Young is a former South Korean singer-songwriter, radio DJ, host, and an actor. He first gained famed through Mnet’s reality television talent show, Superstar K4 (2012). Choi Jong Hoon is a former South Korean musician and actor. He was the leader, guitarist, and keyboardist of rock band F.T. Island and made debut in 2007.
